Who we are
Tips & Whiskers is a small but impactful rescue founded by a passionate husband-and-wife team. Our journey began in 2011, in our neighborhood where we witnessed an increasing number of community cats and countless litters being born each year. Recognizing the urgent need for assistance, we set out to learn more about the cats in our community, and the caretakers that looked after them. We quickly discovered the lack of resources for spay and neuter in the area.
After connecting with local feeders, we learned that many had sought help from the local shelter, only to be turned away time and time again. Fortunately, through a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) website, we met a local TNR advocate who became our mentor. She guided us through the process and provided us with our first trap, setting us on our compassionate path. Together, we strive to make a difference for felines in need, one gato at a time.
We are incredibly grateful to Randy for teaching us the importance of compassion for community cats and for introducing us to the life-changing practice of TNR.
Lux
Mr. Snow
How It Started
Our journey at Tips & Whiskers began in 2011, when we started feeding a community cat named Lux. Shortly after, we met Mr. Snow, another tom cat from the same colony. Despite their rough start—frequently fighting whenever they crossed paths—we managed to trap and neuter both of them. Once returned to their colony, they surprisingly learned to coexist peacefully and even began following us home.
About a year later, we discovered Snow with multiple injuries. We attempted to trap him, but he eluded us for days. Eventually, we learned that he belonged to the mechanic down the street, who was heartbroken over Snow's condition. We offered to take Snow to the vet for treatment, explaining that he would need a safe, indoor space to recover. With tears in his eyes, he entrusted Snow to us, knowing he couldn't care for him as needed.
This moment marked the beginning of my deep commitment to community cats. Snow, initially a hissing and spitting Tom cat, transformed into the sweetest companion I could have ever imagined. He ignited my passion for Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and inspired me to pursue a career in the veterinary field. In his honor, countless cats have been rescued and given a second chance. Snow passed away from cancer in June 2023, but his legacy lives on in every kitty we help at Tips & Whiskers.
